Leitfaden für Stromgestehungskosten bei schwimmenden Windkraftanlagen
März 10, 2016 12:50EOLINK develops an innovative floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) which aims to improve the levelized cost of energy (LCOE).
The presentation addresses weathervaning semi-submersibles using EOLINK patented structure : The Rotor Nacelle Assembly (RNA) is supported by thin arms instead of the conventional tower. Profiled arms are located both upwind and downwind. The above water part of the structure has therefore a pyramidal shape, with the RNA located at its top. This provides a stiffer and lighter structure which enables +10MW turbines.
With this concept, the whole structure of the FOWT rotates to face the wind. This weathervaning technology deploys a single point mooring (SPM) which also permits to decouple mooring installation from power cables installation and from turbine connection. Moreover, weathervaning capabilities allow to design smaller floater which is designed to sustain wind thrust in only one direction. On the contrary, conventionnal architectures must sustain winds coming from all around, which means axisymmetric floaters.
In order to identify the best geometry, fatigue analysis of various floaters‘ design are performed. Because FOWT motions depend on both wind and waves, an aero-hydro-servo-structural code is deployed. Hydrodynamic forces are computed on irregular sea-states thanks to Morison formulation. Turbulent wind’s timeseries and turbine’s control are also considered. Temporal computations are performed considering the floater as a rigid body made of Euler-Bernouilli beams. Rainflow analysis are then computed using the stresses‘ timeseries in order to evaluate damage according to Palmer-Miner rules. This permits to compare the various options in terms of cost and lifetime.
In conclusion, a road-map decreasing LCOE is presented. It demonstrates benefits coming from the above cited points : Rotor’s upsizing, Single Point Mooring, and Structure.
