Manager Site and Energy Assessment, Deutsche WindGuard Consulting

Martin Strack, graduate physicist, has been head of the department “Site and Energy Yield Assessment” at Deutsche WindGuard Consulting GmbH since 2007, having previously held this position at the German Wind Energy Institute (DEWI). The management of the respective commercial as well as R&D activities in the field of site assessment and energy yield assessment included regular work for offshore wind farms since 1998. At WindGuard he was involved in analyses of load relevant site parameters and energy yield including shading effects and technical losses for many German and international offshore projects.

Starting in 2013, Mr. Strack also addressed the requirements and technical challenges of compensation calculations for lost energy yields due to delayed, interrupted and curtailed offshore grid connections. In this area, not only the regular calculations for a large number of affected wind farms were carried out, but also various projects were supported in the legal enforcement of their technically provable claims.

In the area of detailed operational data evaluations, Mr. Strack had already built up experience for many years, which since 2013 has also been adapted to the special requirements of offshore wind farms. In the meantime, a majority of German offshore projects have been subjected to a detailed operational data analysis, which provided valuable information for operators and shareholders with regard to long-term energy yield expectations, wake and other technical losses as well as optimization potential.
